ReadingRate lets you move through literary history by period — ancient, medieval, early modern, the nineteenth century, the twentieth, the contemporary — rather than by popularity, and shows which eras your own reading has covered and which it has skipped entirely.

Recommendation feeds pull toward the recent, because that is where the ratings are. Browsing by era is the counterweight: it makes the shape of the last three thousand years visible, and the gaps in your own reading visible along with it.
What it can't do
- Era boundaries are conventions, and works near a boundary could reasonably sit either side.
- The catalogue is deepest in the twentieth century and thinnest in the medieval period, so the map is more detailed in some places than others.
