Chat with your library on WhatsApp

ReadingRate now answers on WhatsApp. Link your account once and you can ask about your reading in plain language — what you were part-way through, what a book's difficulty looks like, what to pick up next — and add books to a shelf without opening the app. It replies in the thread you already have open, and check-in messages are deterministic rather than AI-generated, so it doesn't chatter. Message it on +351 931 179 283.

Available on web and iOS.

The reason to put a reading log in a messaging app is that reading happens away from the desk. The moment you finish a chapter is not a moment you want to open a website, and a thread you already have open costs nothing to reach.

It runs on the same MCP connection that Claude and ChatGPT use, so the bot sees exactly what you have authorised and nothing else. Answers come from your library rather than from the internet.

Conversations held there are saved back into ReadingRate as read-only transcripts, and the app links back to the WhatsApp thread rather than pretending the conversation happened in-app.

What it can't do

  • It is a membership feature. Free accounts get a limited trial of messages before the prompt to upgrade.
  • There is a daily message cap. WhatsApp bills per message from October, and an uncapped bot is a bill rather than a feature.
  • Telegram is built but not switched on, and iMessage is not planned — Apple requires a certified messaging provider priced for contact centres.
  • Replies only go out inside WhatsApp's 24-hour service window, which covers any conversation you started.
