Follow other readers and see what they're reading
ReadingRate has a feed of the readers you follow: the books they have started, the books they have finished, and the book clubs they have created or joined, over the last thirty days. Following is one-way, like a follow rather than a friend request, so there is nothing to accept. When the feed is empty it suggests readers to follow based on books you have both finished, and tells you how many you share.

Recommendations from strangers average out to the middle of the market. Recommendations from a person whose last ten books you recognise are worth something, which is why the suggestions are built from actual overlap — at least two finished books in common — rather than from a taste score.
The feed is deliberately thin. Starting and finishing a book are the two events that carry information; a stream of every page logged would be noise, and noise is what makes people stop looking.
A condensed version sits on the dashboard on both platforms, showing the three most recent things.
What it can't do
- Started and finished books, and club activity. Quotes, ratings, journal entries and page-by-page progress do not appear.
- Thirty days. There is no way to scroll back further than that.
- There is no way to like or comment on anything in the feed. Discussion happens inside book clubs instead.
- You are notified when someone follows you, but not when a reader you follow finishes a book.
- Activity is visible by default to anyone who follows you. Making your profile private removes you from the feed; there is no separate switch for activity alone.
- Suggestions only find readers with two or more finished books in common, so a small or unusual library returns few or none.
