Reminders that back off when you ignore them
ReadingRate can remind you to read, and the interval between nudges adapts to how you respond: act on them and it shortens, ignore them and it lengthens, moving between one day and fourteen. Separately it tells you when something has actually happened — an EPUB you uploaded finished processing, a book in your library gained new analysis, someone replied to you in a book club. Quiet hours are honoured in your own timezone, and none of it costs anything.

Most apps notify on a fixed schedule regardless of whether anyone responds, which is how a reminder becomes something you switch off entirely. Letting the interval stretch when you are not biting is the difference between a nudge and a nag.
There is a real distinction between the two kinds of message here. Event notifications fire because something happened and are worth interrupting for. Nudges are guesses about your attention, and they are the ones that adapt.
On iPhone you can also set a plain daily reading reminder at a time and on the days you choose, scheduled on the device itself.
What it can't do
- Per-category switches are on the web settings page and cover reading reminders, insights, streaks, book anniversaries and follow-ups. Everything else is governed by the single push switch.
- The iOS app has no notification settings screen. You can set the daily reminder's time and days there, but quiet hours and categories are web-only.
- Web and iPhone use two separate push systems. The onboarding and next-book nudges go out through the web one only, so they do not reach an iPhone.
- Quiet hours apply to push notifications, not to email.
- There is no cap on how many notifications you can receive in a day, only the adapting interval on the nudges.
