Save a quote from any app with the share sheet
Select text anywhere on an iPhone — a browser, a reading app, Notes, a message — and send it to ReadingRate through the share sheet to file it as a quote against a book you are reading. Send a screenshot of a page instead and the page number is read out of the image and logged as progress. Neither needs the app to be open, and both work from any app that offers a normal iOS share sheet.

Most reading on a phone happens inside somebody else's app. A tracker that requires you to leave that app, find your book and type the passage in is a tracker that gets used twice.
The screenshot path handles the three ways a page number appears in the wild: a physical page you photographed, an e-reader showing page x of y or a percentage, and an audiobook showing a chapter and timestamp. From a percentage or a chapter it works back to a page in your copy.
The sheet shows what you are currently reading first, with the rest of your library folded underneath, so filing a passage is usually one tap.
What it can't do
- iOS only. There is no Android app and no equivalent on the web.
- One image, one link or a selection of text at a time. Files and PDFs do not offer ReadingRate in the sheet at all.
- A shared link is stored as the link text. The page behind it is not fetched, and there is no add-a-book-from-a-link flow.
- You can only file against a book already in your library. There is no way to add a book from inside the share sheet.
- If a screenshot contains no page number, percentage or chapter, the log is refused rather than guessed at.
- Offline, a quote is held and offered back the next time you open the app, and only the most recent one is kept.

- Can I save a quote to ReadingRate from another app?
- Yes, on iOS. Select the text, tap share, choose Save to ReadingRate, and pick the book. It works from any app with a standard share sheet, and doesn't require opening ReadingRate.
- How do I log my page from a screenshot?
- Share the screenshot to ReadingRate from the share sheet. The page number is read out of the image — a printed page number, an e-reader's page-of or percentage, or an audiobook chapter — and logged against the book you pick.
