Sync your reading into Obsidian
ReadingRate has an Obsidian plugin that writes your reading life into your vault as interconnected Markdown notes: one per book, author, journal entry and theme, plus quote collections, completion debriefs, domain mastery and a yearly timeline. Everything carries YAML frontmatter and wikilinks, so graph view, Dataview and search work on it like any other note.
Available on web and iOS.
The argument for this is ownership. Reading notes accumulate value over decades, and a note system you cannot get out of is a liability however good it is. Markdown in your own vault outlives any app, including this one.
It also puts reading into the same graph as the rest of your thinking, which is where the connections most people actually want happen — a quote next to a project note rather than sealed inside a reading app.
What it can't do
- Obsidian only. Notion and Markdown export exist separately, but this depth of structure is Obsidian-specific.
- It writes one way, from ReadingRate into the vault. Editing a note does not change your library.
- The Bases dashboards need Obsidian 1.9 or later; Dataview query pages are provided for older versions.
