Adam Smith was a Scottish economist and philosopher whose An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations is considered the founding text of modern economics. He was also the author of The Theory of Moral Sentiments. His ideas about free markets, the division of labor, and the invisible hand shaped modern capitalism.
