Aldo Leopold was an American ecologist, forester, and environmentalist who is regarded as the father of wildlife ecology and the modern conservation movement. His 'land ethic' philosophy, articulated in A Sand County Almanac, became the intellectual foundation for environmental ethics. He helped found the Wilderness Society and spent decades working in wildlife management.
