Algernon Blackwood was a British writer of supernatural fiction whose stories — particularly 'The Willows,' 'The Wendigo,' and the John Silence tales — are among the finest in the genre. His work emphasizes atmosphere, landscape, and the numinous rather than shock or gore. H.P. Lovecraft considered him the greatest living practitioner of weird fiction.
