Alice Schroeder is an American author and former Wall Street analyst. She worked as a lawyer and accountant before becoming an insurance industry analyst, and she ranked among the top analysts in her field at Morgan Stanley, where she later served as managing director. She covered Berkshire Hathaway, which led to her acquaintance with Warren Buffett. Buffett chose her as his authorized biographer, and she spent several years interviewing him, his family and his associates. The result, The Snowball: Warren Buffett and the Business of Life, appeared in 2008 and became a New York Times bestseller. It remains one of the most detailed accounts of Buffett's life and career. Schroeder has also written and spoken on investing, accounting and corporate governance, and she has worked as a columnist for Bloomberg. Her reputation rests on her insider access, her financial training and her ability to explain complex deals to general readers.
