Andrei Platonov was a Soviet Russian writer whose experimental prose style and unsparing depictions of Soviet life resulted in the suppression of most of his major works during his lifetime. His novels and stories, circulated in samizdat and published posthumously, are now recognized as among the greatest achievements of twentieth-century Russian literature.
