Anna Nordberg

American

Anna Nordberg is an American writer and journalist whose essays on motherhood, grief, and family have appeared in Slate, The Washington Post, The New York Times, and the San Francisco Chronicle. Raised in New York City, she began working on a memoir in 2015 about becoming a mother without her own mother, who died when Nordberg was seventeen; the project never found a publisher, but its themes of loss and inherited memory became the seed of her fiction. When She Was Ours (2026), her debut novel, draws on that material, exploring how grief and family secrets echo across generations. Nordberg now lives in San Francisco with her husband, two children, and an English cocker spaniel. She has said that watching her own mother write a novel when Nordberg was a child first gave her the ambition to write one herself; When She Was Ours is dedicated to her mothers memory.
