Anne Enright won the 2007 Booker Prize for "The Gathering," a novel about an Irish family reuniting after a brother's suicide that unearths buried sexual abuse. The Irish author writes about family with corrosive honesty, finding in domestic arrangements the same violence and tenderness others seek in more dramatic settings. Enright's prose accumulates detail until ordinary rooms become unbearable. Her subsequent novels have continued to examine Ireland through the intimacy of bloodlines.
