Anne Sexton was an American confessional poet who began writing poetry as part of her psychiatric treatment. Her work addressed taboo subjects including suicide, depression, sexuality, and the female body with unprecedented frankness. She won the Pulitzer Prize for Live or Die and took her own life in 1974.
