Aristophanes was an ancient Athenian comic dramatist, known as the Father of Comedy. Of the forty plays he is believed to have written, eleven survive complete. His works are the only surviving examples of Old Attic Comedy, characterized by sharp political satire, fantastical plots, and obscene humor.
