August Wilson was an American playwright whose ten-play Pittsburgh Cycle chronicles the African American experience in each decade of the twentieth century. His plays — including Fences, The Piano Lesson, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, and Ma Rainey's Black Bottom — are landmarks of American theater. He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice, for Fences and The Piano Lesson.
