Brian O'Doherty lived multiple artistic lives: as conceptual artist, critic, and novelist. "The Deposition of Father McGreevy" was shortlisted for the 2000 Booker Prize, reimagining Irish mythology. O'Doherty's fiction brought visual artist's spatial thinking to narrative structure. He died in 2022, having demonstrated that creativity need not respect disciplinary boundaries.
