Jacob (1785-1863) and Wilhelm (1786-1859) Grimm were German academics, linguists, and cultural researchers who collected and published folk tales that became the foundation of modern folklore studies. Their Kinder- und Hausmarchen, revised across seven editions, is the most influential fairy tale collection in Western literature. They also began the monumental Deutsches Worterbuch, the German equivalent of the Oxford English Dictionary.
