Casey McQuiston's debut novel, Red, White & Royal Blue (2019), imagined a romance between the First Son of the United States and a British prince—and it became a phenomenon. The book won the 2020 Alex Award and the Goodreads Choice Award for both Best Romance and Best Debut. A film adaptation premiered on Amazon Prime in 2023. McQuiston writes queer romantic comedies that are both escapist and politically engaged; their characters exist in worlds where LGBTQ+ identities are celebrated rather than merely tolerated. Their second novel, One Last Stop (2021), features a woman who falls for a time-displaced stranger on the subway. McQuiston grew up in Louisiana and worked in magazine publishing before writing full-time. They use they/them pronouns and are openly bisexual, and their work centers queer joy as a form of resistance. They live in New York.
