Catherine O'Flynn

British · b. 1970

Catherine O'Flynn won the 2008 Costa First Novel Award for "What Was Lost," a mystery about a missing girl in a Birmingham shopping center that doubles as meditation on consumer culture and urban decay. The British author worked in record shops, a post office, and a bookshop before publishing her debut. O'Flynn writes about ordinary places—malls, suburbs, provincial cities—with an eye for their strangeness.
