César Aira is an Argentine novelist, essayist, and translator who has published more than a hundred novellas and short novels. His work is characterized by rapid, improvisatory narratives that begin in realism and swerve into the fantastical, philosophical, or absurd. He is widely regarded as one of the most important living writers in the Spanish language.
