Chinweizu is a Nigerian poet, essayist, and cultural critic known for his uncompromising advocacy of Afrocentric aesthetics and his polemical attacks on Eurocentric standards in African literary criticism. He studied at MIT and taught at San Jose State University before returning to Nigeria. His other works include The West and the Rest of Us (1975) and Voices from Twentieth-Century Africa (1988).
