Daniel Herwitz is a philosopher and cultural critic at the University of Michigan, where he directs the Institute for the Humanities. His work spans aesthetics, postcolonial theory, and South African cultural history. He is the author of Race and Reconciliation (2003) and The Star as Icon (2008), and has written widely on postcolonial cultural politics.
