Danilo Kiš was a Yugoslav novelist and short story writer of Serbian-Jewish-Hungarian heritage. His works, including A Tomb for Boris Davidovich, Garden, Ashes, and The Encyclopedia of the Dead, combine documentary precision with lyrical intensity. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest writers of the former Yugoslavia, admired for his formal innovation and moral seriousness.
