David Brin is an American SF author and astrophysicist whose Uplift novels imagine a galaxy where intelligent species owe their sapience to genetic patrons. Startide Rising won both the Hugo and Nebula Awards. He is also known for The Postman and his non-fiction about transparency and the future.
