Elias John Wilkinson Gibb was a British Orientalist and the foremost nineteenth-century scholar of Ottoman Turkish literature. He died before completing his History of Ottoman Poetry, which was edited and published posthumously by Edward Browne and remains the standard English-language reference on the classical Ottoman poetic tradition.
