Edmund Spenser was an English poet best known for The Faerie Queene, an epic allegorical poem celebrating the Tudor dynasty and Protestant virtues. He also wrote the sonnet sequence Amoretti and the marriage poem Epithalamion. He served as a colonial administrator in Ireland, where he wrote much of his major work.
