Eileen Chang

Chinese · 1920–1995

Eileen Chang (Zhang Ailing) was a Chinese novelist and essayist whose fiction about love, money, and social manners in wartime Shanghai made her one of the most important Chinese-language writers of the twentieth century. Neglected during the Mao era, she was rediscovered in the 1980s and is now regarded as a modern classic.
