Elie Wiesel was a Romanian-born American writer, professor, and political activist who survived the Holocaust. His memoir Night is one of the most widely read accounts of the concentration camps. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for speaking out against violence, repression, and racism.
