Elif Batuman is an American author and New Yorker staff writer. The Idiot, her first novel, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. She is also the author of the nonfiction book The Possessed: Adventures with Russian Books and the People Who Read Them, and the sequel novel Either/Or.
