Elizabeth Taylor

British · 1912–1975

Elizabeth Taylor was a British novelist and short story writer admired for her precise, understated prose and her penetrating observation of middle-class English life. Often compared to Jane Austen and Elizabeth Bowen, she published twelve novels and four collections of short stories. Her work, undervalued during her lifetime, has been championed in recent decades by writers including Hilary Mantel and Sarah Waters.
