Ellis Peters was the pen name of Edith Pargeter, a British novelist, translator, and scholar who created the Brother Cadfael series of medieval mystery novels. An accomplished translator of Czech literature (she won the Gold Medal of the Czechoslovak Society for International Relations), she brought scholarly rigor and genuine warmth to historical fiction. The Cadfael series comprises twenty novels and three short-story collections.
