Emily Brontë published one novel before dying at thirty, and that novel was "Wuthering Heights." The British author created a work of violent passion and supernatural atmosphere unlike anything in Victorian fiction. Her Heathcliff and Catherine became archetypes of doomed love. Brontë also wrote poetry of considerable power, though her reputation rests on the single fierce novel she left behind.
