Frances Yates was a British historian at the Warburg Institute who specialized in the intellectual history of the Renaissance. Her trilogy — Giordano Bruno and the Hermetic Tradition, The Art of Memory, and Theatre of the World — transformed understanding of the occult dimensions of Renaissance thought. She was appointed OBE and made a Fellow of the British Academy.
