Francisco Varela was a Chilean biologist, philosopher, and neuroscientist who co-founded the field of neurophenomenology. With Humberto Maturana, he developed the concept of autopoiesis. His work bridging cognitive science and Buddhist contemplative practice opened new directions in the study of consciousness.
