Frederick Exley was an American writer known almost entirely for his debut, A Fan's Notes, which he subtitled 'A Fictional Memoir.' He published two subsequent books, Pages from a Cold Island and Last Notes from Home, but neither achieved the recognition of his first. He struggled with alcoholism throughout his life.
