G.M. Malliet

American

G.M. Malliet is an American author of traditional British-style mysteries. She worked as a newspaper editor and writer before turning to fiction. Her first novel, Death of a Cozy Writer, introduced Detective Chief Inspector St. Just and won the Agatha Award for Best First Novel. It was followed by further St. Just books, including Death and the Lit Chick and A Fatal Winter's predecessor in style, the Max Tudor series. That series follows Max Tudor, a former MI5 agent turned Anglican priest in the village of Nether Monkslip, and began with Wicked Autumn, which also won recognition. She has also written the Arthur Beautyman series and the Weighed in the Balance mysteries, and she has published a standalone novel. Her books follow the English country-house and village mystery tradition, with puzzles, closed circles of suspects and light humor. She has lived in the United States and in England, and her settings draw on English village life.
