George Lamming

George Lamming was a Barbadian novelist and essayist regarded as one of the major figures of Caribbean literature. His novels, including In the Castle of My Skin (1953) and The Emigrants (1954), explore the experience of colonial and post-colonial Caribbean life. The Pleasures of Exile (1960) is his major critical statement and one of the foundational texts of Caribbean literary and postcolonial thought.
