György Lukács was a Hungarian Marxist philosopher and literary critic who held ministerial positions in both the 1919 Hungarian Soviet Republic and the 1956 government of Imre Nagy. His literary criticism, including The Historical Novel and Studies in European Realism, made him one of the central figures of twentieth-century Marxist aesthetics.
