H.G. Wells was one of the founders of science fiction. His 'scientific romances'—The Time Machine, The War of the Worlds, The Invisible Man, The Island of Doctor Moreau—established templates that the genre has explored for over a century. Trained as a biologist under T.H. Huxley, he brought Darwinian thinking to speculative fiction.
