Helena Maria Viramontes is a Chicana novelist and professor of creative writing at Cornell University. Her novels Under the Feet of Jesus and Their Dogs Came with Them are landmarks of Chicana literature. She has received a United States Artists Fellowship and the Luis Leal Award for Distinction in Chicano/Latino Literature.
