Iain Pears is a British art historian and novelist whose work combines intellectual ambition with genre storytelling. An Instance of the Fingerpost, his breakthrough novel, drew on his expertise in seventeenth-century history and philosophy of science. He has also written a popular series of art-world mysteries featuring Jonathan Argyll.
