Ivan Goncharov was a Russian novelist best known for Oblomov, one of the most celebrated novels in Russian literature. He also wrote A Common Story and The Precipice. His work occupies a central place in the tradition of Russian realism, and the character of Oblomov has become an archetype of Russian cultural self-analysis.
