James Agee won the 1958 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction posthumously with "A Death in the Family," a novel about a boy's loss of his father. The American author also wrote the celebrated nonfiction work "Let Us Now Praise Famous Men" with photographer Walker Evans, documenting Depression-era sharecroppers. Agee worked as a film critic and screenwriter, dying at forty-five with his major novel unfinished. Others assembled "A Death in the Family" from his drafts.
