Jane Smiley won the 1992 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction with "A Thousand Acres," which relocated "King Lear" to an Iowa farm. The American author has written more than twenty novels spanning historical fiction, contemporary realism, and horse stories. Her Last Hundred Years Trilogy traced a family from 1920 to 2020. Smiley writes about America—its land, its families, its animals—with both affection and critique.
