John Eldredge is an American Christian author and counselor, born in Los Angeles in 1960. He studied theater at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and took a master's degree in counseling from Colorado Christian University, then spent years on staff at Focus on the Family before leaving in 2000 to found Ransomed Heart Ministries in Colorado Springs, now known as Wild at Heart. His breakthrough came in 2001 with Wild at Heart, which argued that every man longs for a battle to fight, an adventure to live and a beauty to rescue, and which became a cornerstone of the evangelical men's movement, spawning retreats, study guides and a companion book for women, Captivating, written with his wife Stasi. Earlier he co-wrote The Sacred Romance with Brent Curtis; later books include Waking the Dead, Epic, Walking with God and Get Your Life Back. His writing blends Scripture, personal story and film, and draws both devoted readers and criticism for its view of gender.
