José Donoso was a Chilean novelist and one of the major figures of the Latin American Boom. His novel The Obscene Bird of Night is considered a masterpiece of the movement. He lived for many years in Spain and was a central observer and participant in the literary networks that defined Latin American fiction in the 1960s and 1970s.
