José María Arguedas

José María Arguedas was a Peruvian novelist, poet, and anthropologist whose work bridges the Quechua and Spanish worlds of Andean Peru. Raised among Quechua-speaking indigenous people, he devoted his literary career to representing indigenous experience in Spanish without distortion. His suicide in 1969 was an event of national significance.
