José Rizal

José Rizal was a Filipino nationalist, writer, and polymath whose novels Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo exposed the corruption of Spanish colonial rule and inspired the Philippine independence movement. He was executed by the Spanish colonial government at age thirty-five, becoming the Philippines' national hero. He spoke over twenty languages and was also a physician, sculptor, and naturalist.
