Kami Garcia is an American author of young adult fiction and comics. She grew up in Maryland and worked as a teacher and literacy specialist before writing full time. With Margaret Stohl she wrote the Caster Chronicles, which began with Beautiful Creatures in 2009 and grew into a bestselling series set in the small Southern town of Gatlin, South Carolina. The first book was adapted into a 2013 film. Garcia also wrote the Legion series, beginning with Unmarked, and the standalone novels The Lovely Reckless and Unbreakable. She has written for DC, including the graphic novels Teen Titans: Raven and Superman: Dawn of Doom. Her books mix horror, romance and Southern settings, and they have reached a wide teenage readership. She is among the more visible authors of the paranormal young adult wave that followed Twilight, and she has also worked on projects connecting teen fiction and comics.
